I believe that every canvas hanging in a wall must tell a story. Not another one’s story but the one that represents you or the moment of time you are living.
While creating each piece of art, I try to bring elements and symbols of what the initial meaning of the canvas was to me, but without being so explicit to prevent any other story or interpretation.
This canvas was created during Covid-19 confinement and represents a woman that despite the new reality of scarcity and pain in the society, she is still trying to pretend that nothing has changed, the same fancy lifestyle we had before. However what surrounds her is empty. Only a black crow is looking after her.
The beach bucket is used instead of a surgical mask as a provocative element that shows how the new reality is underestimated.
I believe every situation in life, whether easy or difficult, should bring us the strength to change and to adapt so we can continue being valid in the new. Jaap Grolleman said “I have to change to stay the same” and I cannot agree more.
If you ever purchase this canvas and wish to share with me what this canvas represents to you I will be really grateful to read your story.
